What defines a defensive mob?

A defensive mob is characterized by its reaction to perceived threats. This type of mob forms when individuals come together in response to an external challenge, often feeling the need to protect themselves, their community, or their values. The members of a defensive mob typically share a common interest in defending against a situation they see as harmful or threatening.

This concept is rooted in social psychology, where the group dynamic can amplify individual reactions to threats, leading to collective action. In contrast, other groups may have different motivations; for example, mobs focused on acquiring food or those that are simply passive spectators do not fit the definition of a defensive mob, as they are not primarily reacting to threats. Likewise, political activists may form for various reasons, including promoting a cause or engaging in advocacy, but they do not inherently imply a defensive posture in response to an external threat.
